Addiction Issues

Many individuals with addiction problems may be reluctant to change. Young adults tend to be the least likely to seek professional help for their addictions because they don’t yet see their behavior as a problem. Admitting they have a problem or addiction is the first step. The sooner one realizes there is a problem that needs to be addressed, the sooner he or she can begin the recovery process.

Young Adult Addiction Treatment

  • Alcohol Addiction - is the most severe form of a drinking problem. Alcohol addiction has all of the symptoms of alcohol abuse, except afflicted individuals are also physically dependent on drinking. If a person relies on alcohol to function, he or she is considered an alcoholic. Alcohol addiction and even alcohol abuse can affect all aspects of one’s life and can eventually create serious health problems.

  • Drug Addiction - may start out as a seemingly harmless and voluntary act of recreational drug use, but in time can develop into a compulsive and uncontrollable habit. As prolonged drug use continues, it can develop into drug addiction, severely impacting an individual’s brain chemistry and controlling ones life.

  • Gaming Addiction – A recent study estimated that three quarters of a million young adults in the United States engage in problem gambling. Like alcohol and drug addiction, gaming addiction is a disease that may, ultimately, result in the loss of control over one’s actions and leave individuals with serious consequences.

  • Prescription Medical Abuse – The consequences of prescription medicine abuse have been steadily worsening and young adults are abusing prescription medicine at an alarming rate.
